NOW Foods Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan provides 100 mg of beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan per capsule, derived from the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae – the same baker’s yeast used for bread and brewing. NOW blends it with 160 mg of maitake mushroom powder (Grifola frondosa), a traditional culinary mushroom that is itself naturally rich in beta-glucans, for a complementary two-source formula in a single vegan capsule.

What Is Beta-Glucan?
Beta-glucans are a family of complex carbohydrates (polysaccharides) found in the cell walls of yeasts, fungi, oats and barley. Their structure varies by source: oat and barley beta-glucans are soluble dietary fibres with a 1,3/1,4 structure, while yeast and mushroom beta-glucans have a branched 1,3/1,6 structure. This product uses the yeast and mushroom type – a different ingredient from the oat beta-glucan found in breakfast cereals.
What Is Maitake?
Maitake (Grifola frondosa), known as “hen of the woods”, is an edible mushroom prized in Japanese cooking and traditional practice. It grows in clusters at the base of oak trees and naturally contains its own beta-glucans.
